Guide to Living Nativity Scenes in Catalonia

2026-2027 season

L'Espluga de Francolí Living Nativity 2026

The Living nativity scene of L'Espluga de Francolí is one of the three oldest of Catalonia (since 1964) and has a particularity: it is biennial (it takes place every two years). This one season 2026-2027 returns to the medieval streets of Capuig and the castle. Review essential logistics, as there are no physical ticket offices and access is strictly controlled.

The Experience: 60 years of history and immersive audio guide

The nativity scene transforms the remains of the original centers of Espluga (11th-14th centuries). The visitor enters a sensory journey through ancient Judea, which begins with the search for hostages of Mary and Joseph and culminates with traditional trades, laundries and the presence of the communities that lived there. A great novelty is the optional visit with audio guide on mobile (it is essential that you bring your own home headphones).
